Aligner Treatment & Refinements
We’re committed to helping you achieve the best possible outcome from your aligner treatment.
As part of your treatment plan, refinement aligners may be provided if clinically appropriate, subject to the limits of your selected treatment tier:
- Depending on your plan, you are eligible for up to one (1) or two (2) rounds of refinements
- Refinements are intended to improve the final result during active treatment and are not unlimited
To remain eligible for refinements, the following conditions apply:
- Aligners must be worn for a minimum of 22 hours per day throughout treatment
- You must notify us within 3 days of completing your final aligner if you believe refinements are needed
- Refinements must be initiated within 14 days of finishing treatment; requests outside this window may incur additional fees
- Use of the ScanBox and Dental Monitoring app is required
- Scans must be submitted every two weeks, or as instructed by our clinical team
- Missed scans may make you ineligible for included refinements, and additional charges may apply
Once your included refinement rounds have been used, any further aligners will be subject to additional fees.
Tooth Position With Retainers
Once post-treatment retainers have been purchased, we guarantee the quality and durability of the retainer materials when used as directed.
Long-term tooth stability depends on consistent retainer wear. To support this, the following conditions apply:
- Coverage applies only to teeth retained by a bonded wire retainer or a aalto plastic retainer that is replaced every 6 months
- You must maintain good oral hygiene and regular dental care
- Any damage, brittleness, or loosening of retainers must be reported to aalto promptly
- Plastic retainers must be worn for at least 8 hours every night, following the 6-week passive healing phase, on an ongoing basis

Long-Term Tooth Position & Retention
To help maintain your results long-term, we offer two retainer options following treatment:
- A bonded wire retainer fitted at a partner clinic, or
- A removable plastic retainer worn nightly.
Retainers are essential for maintaining your final tooth position. Tooth movement can occur over time if retainers are not worn as directed.
Important: While retainers help maintain alignment, we do not guarantee free refinement aligners for tooth movement occurring after treatment completion.
FAQs
What are refinement aligners?
Refinement aligners are an additional set of clear aligners provided after your initial treatment, designed to make minor adjustments if your teeth haven’t moved exactly as planned.
They’re used to fine-tune your results — for example, if a tooth is slightly out of place or needs further alignment after completing your original aligner series.
Are refinements included in my treatment?
Yes. Refinements are included as part of your treatment plan, subject to the limits of your selected tier.
Depending on your plan, you are eligible for up to one (1) or two (2) rounds of refinements.
Are refinements unlimited?
No. Refinements are limited to the number included in your treatment tier. Once your included refinement rounds have been used, any additional aligners will be subject to additional fees.
What do I need to do to remain eligible for refinements?
To qualify for included refinements, you must:
- Wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day
- Use the ScanBox and Dental Monitoring app as instructed
- Submit scans every two weeks, or as requested by our team
Missed scans or non-compliance may make you ineligible for included refinements.
Why are regular scans required?
Regular scans allow your dentist to monitor your progress and ensure your treatment is tracking safely and effectively. Without consistent scans, we cannot clinically assess whether refinements are appropriate.
